Engineering Studies

PrintSend to friend

A major barrier to using energy efficiently is recognizing opportunities to improve energy productivity. The Ontario Power Authority is working to identify energy savings opportunities that can, with an incentive from Industrial Accelerator, improve process efficiency and manage energy costs. There are two ways that Industrial Accelerator assists: by providing funding for engineering studies to investigate project opportunities and by providing an incentive to accelerate the project’s return on investment.

Here is a list of  eligible companies who are currently participating in Engineering Studies through Industrial Accelerator:

  • AbitibiBowater
  • ArcelorMittal Dofasco
  • Flakeboard Company Limited
  • Ford Motor Company
  • General Motors
  • Gerdau Ameristeel Corporation
  • Goldcorp Canada
  • Ivaco Rolling Mills
  • Lafarge
  • Oxy Vinyls
  • Panabrasive
  • Tembec Enterprises
  • Toyota Motor Manufacturing Canada
  • U.S. Steel Canada
  • Vale Inco
  • Weyerheuser
  • Xstrata Canada

Study Funding

Industrial Accelerator provides funding for two levels of engineering studies to identify and investigate an energy efficiency project: preliminary engineering studies and detailed engineering studies. The studies are the first step toward receiving incentive funding for your project.

This is an opportunity to obtain engineering studies by world-class professionals with expertise in end-use systems and industrial processes. Preliminary studies receive funding of up to $10,000, while the detailed studies are eligible to receive 100% funding.

A preliminary engineering study of individual industrial systems identifies opportunities for process improvements that reduce electricity use.

Preliminary Engineering Study

A detailed engineering study builds a capital investment business case for process efficiency improvements that can reduce electricity use.

Detailed Engineering Study

To apply for study funding, contact your Key Account Manager for an application. Please include in the application an engineering proposal outlining the study scope.
